I’ll just cut to the chase. I don’t really like you. You say things that sound dumb to me, sometimes you seem unconcerned about the battles that my heart is so passionate about fighting. There are times you scare me when you speak, because I wonder how many people I meet regularly, whose thoughts are along similar lines. You look weird; your hair is funny and you act strange at times.
But I almost forgot that you are just like me, and you were once me.. A young person determined to rise and stand out. I almost forgot that like me, you’re not perfect. I almost forgot, that you’re different, just like me. And, I almost forgot, that you’re made of flesh, blood and bone (among many other things), JUST like me. Let me begin by apologizing for my forgetfulness. I’m sorry.
Like I wrote earlier, I don’t like you; But I realize that today is one of the most important days of your life: your inauguration as the 45th president of arguably the greatest nation on earth. I realize that you’re like me so I know you’re very nervous, you’re excited and afraid at the same time. You have a plan but you also know you have a lot of obstacles… and I want to believe that you truly want to make America great again. I want to tell you I get you, on a weird yet perfectly normal level. You’re not an alien. I don’t like you but I resonate with you on the simple level of humanity.
You’re not an alien
You don’t get it right all the time and you are under a lot of public scrutiny because of the position that you have now accepted. You don’t make it easy for me to stand you most times, but, I get it. The only reason you’re now on my radar is because of how important you are about to become. You have your insecurities, your fears, your accomplishments and the things you are proud of. You act foolishly, but you have also made a lot of wise decisions. Above all, you’re a family man, like a lot of men are, so I can imagine it must hurt when people attack your family.
This is a dicey situation. I don’t like you, but I love you. You see, I come from a kingdom where you show unconditional love to all of God’s creation, whether you feel like it or not. You are my brother, and we both don’t have to feel that way for it to be true. Feelings after all are just a bunch of constantly changing chemical signals to the brain.
I write this to you today to tell you that, I might not like you, but that won’t stop me from fulfilling my duty to pray for you, to hope that you are able to successfully steer this country in the right direction, to hope that you will understand and respect what freedom truly means, that you will empathize with the suffering of the disadvantaged and fiercely fight against all forms of injustice and unfairness. I will pray, that you won’t make costly mistakes and that you will have the courage to always do the right thing.
I do not hate you and I am not afraid of you. Your predecessor has done a great job, not without his own mistakes. I believe that what endeared him to the people was the fact that he meant well. So president Donald Trump, I accept you as president. I won’t antagonize you on social media unnecessarily. I only promise to do the very thing I pray for you to be able to do, what is right. I will fight against all forms of injustice, including the ones that might come from you because at the end of the day, it’s not about you and it’s not about me. This is greater than us. This is justice.
So congratulations Mr. President and from the bottom of my heart, I wish you the very best.
The one who won’t stay silent.
